Who we are

Welcome to the Port City innovation Hub (PCiH) website.


PCiH is a programme of funded innovation accelerator support across Liverpool City Region led by Wirral Council in partnership with delivery leads The University of Liverpool, Wirral Chamber of Commerce, Mersey Maritime and Rainmaking in the Liverpool City Region.

The programme currently runs until June 2023 and is supported by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Strategic Investment Fund and European Union Regional Development Fund.

Our ambitions, your future

This is an exciting time for maritime industries in Liverpool City Region and the wider North West, with the development of the Maritime Knowledge Hub II, a world-class centre of excellence for skills, research, innovation and commercialisation being delivered by Peel L&P, Mersey Maritime, Wirral Council as part of Wirral Waters.

Wirral Waters is one of the largest and most exciting regeneration projects in Europe and is located in the proposed Liverpool City Region Freeport as announced by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer in the March 2021 Budget.

The Port of Liverpool is already the UK's biggest transatlantic port. The creation of a multi-gateway, multi-modal Freeport will attract new investment, create 14,000 new jobs and increase levels of innovation to meet the region's Net Zero Carbon targets for 2040.

HyNet North West is a ground-breaking clean energy project that will unlock a low carbon future for the North West and North Wales. It will place the region at the forefront of the UK’s journey to net zero and help to decarbonise multiple sectors of the economy from 2025 onwards.
